About the Meccore Quartet
The Meccore Quartet from Poland was formed in 2007. The Quartet has developed a reputation among audiences, critics, and peers alike for their exciting concerts. Their performances have been described as "Chamber music at the highest level, presented thrillingly and with zest" (Reinhard Palmer "Süddeutsche Zeitung") and "like holy fire pouring from the skies" (Lidy van der Spek, "Algemeen Dagblad").
In April 2012, the Meccore Quartet won second prize – and three additional special prizes – at the London International String Quartet Competition at Wigmore Hall. These celebrated musicians perform standing, engaging their whole bodies to express the essence of the music. The intensely focused atmosphere they create makes listening to them a fiercely absorbing pleasure.
Listen like a professional!
Haydn: Quartet in C Major, Op. 50, No. 2
Szymanowski: Quartet No. 2, Op. 56
Schumann: Quartet in A Minor, Op. 41, No. 1
Pre-concert lecture by Jason Heilman:
Karol Szymanowski: Polish Modernist While Frederic Chopin is justly famous as Poland’s greatest composer, lesser known are the generations of Polish composers who followed in his footsteps. Of those, Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) is the most celebrated in his own native country and beyond. Musicologist Jason Heilman introduces the string quartets of the early twentieth century composer, who was hailed in his day as “the Polish Richard Strauss”.

"They sound so magnetizing that you forget it’s a string quartet playing. Even the slightest nuance of the piece is gleaming."
-Susanne Pütz, "HR2 Kultur", August 2016
