The Lysander Piano Trio Returns to Tulsa!

April 24, 2017

For our final concert weekend of the 2016-2017 season, we are thrilled to present the Lysander Piano Trio for their second visit to Tulsa! You may remember their concert weekend in 2014.

During their stay in Tulsa, the Trio will perform a special Friday night concert at 108 Contemporary, our sold out Salon series, our sunday afternoon series, and an outreach event with Central High School.

"We have particularly fond memories of our visit in Tulsa during the 14-15 season: the enthusiastic and knowledgeable audience of all ages, and the particularly warm hospitality from Bruce and several patrons who opened their homes for a rehearsal and sat down for meals with us (our violinist particularly enjoyed a certain bread pudding and is looking forward to tasting that again!). The community part of the residency was excellently organized and very enjoyable. We were very impressed with the high-school and middle-school students and their teachers. We also had wonderful discussion with college students during the salon concert that ranged from technical advice to style and composers.

For our return, we are very excited to be presenting an unusual program. We open with a 150th-anniversary tribute to Enrique Granados, one of Spain's most colorful and original composers, considered one of the fathers of a Spanish national style in classical music. Next, we present a wonderful, very Romantic work by the Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco who found refuge in Hollywood during World War II and helped shape the sound of movies with his own scores--including And Then There Were None--and through his students, chief among them John Williams. Last of the three Mediterranean works on the first half, we are excited to present what is surely an Oklahoma premiere (if not even a national one) of Turkish composer Ilhan Baran’s Transformations, a beautiful and often mesmerizing work by a composer known for his electronic music. On the second half, we are thrilled to perform ‘the Mount Everest of piano trios,’ Schubert’s profound late trio in E-flat Major." -
